Supplying Illustrations for Your Thesis

Illustrations: Supplying for Your Thesis

Illustrations

The illustrations you use for the cover and the inside of the book have to meet certain requirements in order to obtain a good print result.

Line images
Line images can be drawings, graphs, diagrams and other comparable images. In the final lay out and size of the image the lines have to be at least 0,15 mm thick.

Resolution: 1200 dpi. Converting images with a low resolution into 1200 dpi does not result in a better quality of the image. The file does not improve, only becomes larger.

Type of file: TIFF or JPG.

Black and white photo’s
To obtain the highest possible quality we suggest to use photo’s with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Converting images with a low resolution into 300 dpi does not result in a better quality of the image. The file does not improve, only becomes larger.

Color: Greyscale.

Type of file: TIFF, JPG or EPS.

Photo’s that do not have to be printed in colour always have to be converted into photo’s in grey scale.

Colour photo’s (full colour)
Colour images always have to be delivered in CMYK. When an image is provided in RGB, which is the case with most of the photo and scan software, a blue haze will appear on the image. This can cause large differences in colour. Our system shall disapprove these images. RGB can be converted into CMYK in Photoshop.

Resolution: 300 dpi. Converting images with a low resolution into 300 dpi does not result in a better quality of the image. The file does not improve, only becomes larger.

Type of file: TIFF, EPS or JPG.
